Giuseppe Verdi's Aida, opera in four acts.

Viewers can enjoy the famous opera in a classical reading and with spectacular sets. The brilliant scenography of Alexey Stepanyuk and stylized costumes of Varvara Yevchuk are complemented by modern video projections by leading Russian video designer Vadim Dulenko.
The composer wrote the Aida in 1870, commissioned by the Khedive of Egypt for the Cairo Opera House. This was the determining factor in the choice of plot. The libretto is based on a story from an ancient papyrus found by an Egyptologist. The opera is set during the reign of the pharaohs. However, Verdi brought to the fore the personal drama of the characters – the forbidden love of the Egyptian commander Radames and Ethiopian slave Aida. Its action-packed scenes, unexpected plot twists, truly wonderful arias and exotic flavour have made Aida one of the most popular operas in musical theatres around the world.
Conductor – Pavel Smelkov.

Pearls of the Stage: Legendary Costumes of the first ‘Russian Seasons’ Exhibition

‘Russian Seasons’ are the most world-known performances of Russian artists abroad. In 1907, the great impresario Sergei Diaghilev arranged for Russian historic concerts in Paris, which included performances by Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninov and Glazunov. The exhibit features sketches for costumes of the legendary productions. As time went by, they became separate from the performances for which they were created and took on their own, independent significance. In other words, they became independent works of art. Nowadays, we feast our eyes on the works of artists with no thought of the pieces for which they were created.

The exhibition is located on the first floor of the Grand Hall atrium at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre and is available to all repertory performance audiences.

Roon Staal concert

Roon Staal is a singer, pianist and composer from the Netherlands.
Roon first visited Vladivostok 12 years ago. The city and its inhabitants made a lasting impression on Roon, and since then the musician has returned to the capital city of Primorye several times a year and thinks of Vladivostok as his second home.
The release of Roon’s first CD, which contained the song ‘Help Me Through the Night’, arguably marked the beginning of his solo career. His first studio album, ‘The Journey’, was recorded in 2010. After that, Roon began doing annual tours of the Netherlands and other countries within Europe and Asia. In August, Roon will complete a tour of Japan and will fly to Vladivostok again, where he will perform a concert at the Pushkin Theatre of the Far Eastern Federal University.
