The
document establishes the legal procedure for foreign tourist ships entry into the
Russian regional ports of the Far East and the Arctic. The document instructs
to list the ports of call open for foreign ships to embark and disembark
tourists for sightseeing, as well as to replenish food supplies.
The
Government of the Russian Federation is to approve the list, and the Federal
Agency for Tourism (Russiatourism) will coordinate the detailed tourist routes
with cruise companies.
“The law is to
contribute to the development of tourism in the Far East and the Arctic.
Adopted changes will expand the list of cruise routes and enhance the tourist
flow. At that, important issues of the Far Eastern and Arctic tourism remain.
They include international cooperation, implementation of new investment
projects, and development of infrastructure. The tourism potential of these
regions will be one of the themes of the 5th Eastern Economic Forum business
programme,” said
Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Executive
Secretary of the Organizing Committee of the Eastern Economic Forum.
In
April 2019, as part of the ‘Arctic – Territory of Dialogue’ International Arctic
Forum, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation
instructed Russiatourism to prepare a programme for the development of cruise
ship tourism in the Arctic.
“A cornerstone of the
Arctic development is our close work with experts, environmentalists, the
Ministry of Natural Resources on the striking the balance between efficient
development of tourism in the Arctic and preserving its unique ecosystem. We
need to ramp up the interest in the Russian Arctic and tourism here,” said Zarina Doguzova,
Head of the Federal Agency for Tourism.
Currently,
the Far East boasts a high rate of cruise tourism and increased tourist flow.
In a point of fact, in 2019, at least 16 cruise ships are expected in
Vladivostok. For example, during EEF, the brand new Costa Venezia will moor in
the city, where some Forum guests will be accommodated. Several informal events
of the 5th Eastern Economic Forum, which take place in Vladivostok on 4–6 September will also
take place on-board Costa Venezia.
