Amur Region Government Discusses Preparations for AmurExpo 2024

Members of the Amur Region government discussed preparations for the Russian-Chinese AmurExpoForum 2024, which will take place on 24–26 May on both banks of the Amur River. For the second year in a row, based on instructions from Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Forum will serve as an offsite platform of the Eastern Economic Forum. The Forum will be organized with the support of the Roscongress Foundation.

Experts from various fields – from government agencies to large businesses from different countries – will gather in Blagoveshchensk and Heihe (China) to discuss the development of transport infrastructure, international and bilateral trade, the processing of agricultural products, banking, energy, mining, and tourism.

“AmurExpo is making gains each year as an effective platform for building new international relations and developing existing agreements. Representatives of the federal authorities, the diplomatic corps, major Russian and foreign corporations, development institutions, and business associations are expressing great interest in the Forum. In addition to our Chinese partners, representatives from India, Pakistan, Iran, Belarus, Uzbekistan, and Mongolia plan to take part in the AmurExpo. The Forum business programme, which we drafted together with the Roscongress Foundation, addresses such key issues as cooperation with China and other countries. I am certain that numerous promising ideas and alliances will emerge on the sidelines of our event,” Amur Region Governor Vasily Orlov said.

Announcing the thematic content of the Forum’s plenary session, First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and External Relations of the Amur Region Yekaterina Kireyeva noted that the Forum participants will discuss the best ways to further develop the principles of modern multifaceted international cooperation between Russia, China, and other countries and will focus on the use of the Amur Region’s unique geography and the experience that the Far East has accumulated in interregional collaboration for mutually beneficial cooperation. “In the current conditions, the Amur Region could become a gateway for cooperation not only with China, but with other countries of Southeast Asia as well. The creation of international advanced special economic zones and the development of the tourism industry, joint initiatives, and projects are also on the agenda,” Yekaterina Kireyeva said.

International tourism in the Far East will have a special place on the Forum’s business agenda. Regional brands and prospects for the development of tourism infrastructure will be presented at the thematic session.

Per tradition, participants and guests of the AmurExpoForum will have an opportunity to visit the stands of key exporters and importers, major corporations, the authorities, and development institutions at the Blagoveshchensk Public Culture Centre. There will be exhibits of participants in the categories of ProdExpo (food, agricultural products, and eco-products), TechExpo (automobiles, special equipment, and energy facilities), PromExpo (industry, architecture, construction, the urban environment, materials, technologies and equipment, and design), and TourExpo (tourism infrastructure, products, and goods) on an area near the cultural centre.

On the Chinese side, the Forum’s business programme events will take place on 25–26 May and will be part of the 8th Russia-China EXPO, which is part of the Harbin International Economic and Trade Fair.

The Forum’s guests and participants can expect an extensive cultural and sports programme, including mass exercises and jogging, competitions, exhibitions, master classes, and major concert programmes. There are also plans for performances by regional sports federations, famous choreographic groups from the Amur Region and Heilongjiang Province, rock groups, as well as contemporary artists.
