Session entitled ‘The Far East: Resource Frontier or Driver of Growth?’ will be held as part of the Delivering on National Development Targets track of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum’s business programme. The experts will discuss the effectiveness of measures to support investment projects and outline further steps for the economic development of the Russian Far East.

Participants include Alexey Chekunkov, Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, Valery Limarenko, Governor of Sakhalin Region, Mikhail Degtyarev, Acting Governor of Khabarovsky Krai, Mikhail Karisalov, Chairman of the Management Board, Chief Executive Officer, SIBUR, Sergey Kolesnikov, President, TECHNONICOL Group of companies, and more. Session will be moderated by Grigory Berezkin, Chairman of the Board of Directors, ESN Group.

“The measures aimed at accelerating the development of the Far East have had an effect and are appreciated by the business community. Thanks to preferential regimes, more than 2,600 projects worth RUB 5 trillion are being implemented. More than 70% are investments in non-resource enterprises, which provide economic diversification and technology development. We continue to work to improve the preferential regimes, responding quickly to the signals from entrepreneurs. The Far East is a special economic belt, and in order for its economy to work profitably for both the state and the people, we need fine-tuned regulation,” said Alexei Chekunkov.

Participants will share their own practical experience in the region and discuss how to accelerate the development of the processing industry in the Far East and remove infrastructural limitations. Experts will also talk about what steps should be taken by business and the state in order to achieve qualitative structural shifts and technological breakthrough in the development of the Far Eastern economy while maintaining the achieved dynamics.
