EEF 2022 Sports Programme to be Branded the Vladivostok Open

The sports and entertainment programme of the 7th Eastern Economic Forum will be held under the Vladivostok Open brand and will feature 10 sporting events.

The sports programme is a traditional venue for the development of international cooperation, including student exchange, the presentation of new formats for spectacular tournaments, and the promotion of mass and corporate sports. The development of the Far East as a modern sports centre with an eye on new challenges will also be one of the topics on the Forum’s business agenda,” Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the EEF 2022 Organizing Committee, said. The Vladivostok Open programme was set up by the Roscongress Foundation in conjunction with all-Russia sports federations, with support from the Russian Ministry of Sports.

The first day of EEF 2022 will open with the Vladivostok Run on Russky Island in the morning, which will also be the final event of the International Tiger Forum. EEF participants, famous athletes, and city residents will take part in the 5 km run. The Run is dedicated to the Amur tiger, with all proceeds going towards the preservation of one of the Far East's symbols. The race will be held with the support of Russian Railways.

A large part of the sports programme will have an international flavour. The boxing evening will be held as a match between the Russian and Asian national teams. The new Arena Sporta in Vladivostok will host the event.

The geography of the mass wrestling tournament is 18 countries, including athletes from India, Mongolia, Iran, Brazil, and Angola. Many of them competed at the World Championships in Yakutsk a month ago. The mas-wrestling competition will be held as part of the “Far East Street” exhibition. The men will compete in weight classes of up to 75 kg and 90 kg, and the women up to 65 kg.

The Vladivostok International Rowing Regatta will bring together the strongest student teams from Russia, Belarus, China, and other countries on Russky Island. A tournament among professional teams will also be held. The regatta will be a big sports festival featuring an entertainment and gastronomic programme on the shores of Novik Bay.

EEF 2022 will mark the launch of the SUP Surf League – the new format of international SUP surfing competitions bringing together amateurs and professionals. Over 250 participants representing 10 countries will be on the starting line in the Amur Bay.

Grandmasters from Russia, including all regions of the Far Eastern Federal District, and Asia-Pacific countries will compete for the EEF Chess Cup. A large-scale chess programme has also been prepared for Forum participants and residents of Primorsky Territory.

The Far Eastern Federal Districts first skateboarding championship in the Olympic street discipline will be held as part of the EEF 2022. The competition will be hosted by Vladivostok’s new skate park, whose opening ceremony will also take place at the Forum.

The GTO Arena pavilion will be part of the “Far East Street” exhibition with its central event – the GTO Games. The GTO Games are a new spectacular mass sport based on the norms of the Ready for Labour and Defence All-Russian Physical Culture and Sports Exercise Programme. The games will be held in individual and team events with the participation of professional athletes. EEF participants will also be able to test their physical abilities at the pavilion.

There will be sailing competitions in addition to rowing. The traditional sailing regatta for the EEF Cup in the Platu-25 yacht class will grace the waters of the Amur Bay. The competition format includes short dynamic races. All Platu-25 class yachts in Primorsky Territory are symbolically named after Russian and foreign rock bands.

The EEF 2022 sports programme will open with another regatta – Radio Monte Carlo – to be held at the Tenzor Sailing Club located in Moscow Region on 13 August. As part of the regatta, Russian Media Group will hold a discussion entitled Creative & Business: The Experience Economy”.
