Development of Russian-Asian cooperation to be discussed at the Valdai International Discussion Club session during EEF 2023

Participants in the session entitled An Open Far East in the World Economy: Achievements and Future Plans, organized by the Valdai International Discussion Club as part of the business programme of the 8th Eastern Economic Forum, will discuss the dynamics of cooperation between Russia and Asian states, taking into account the current state of affairs in global politics. The discussion will take place on 11 September at 10:00. The EEF is organized by the Roscongress Foundation.

“For ten years, we have been developing the Far East, preparing it for change, and now we will see which projects have worked and which have not. Whereas before, we had theoretical ideas, now we will determine which forms of cooperation are actually in demand,” said Timofei Bordachev, Programme Director of the Valdai Discussion Club, the head of the report’s author team, and the session's moderator.

The session is a continuation of the Valdai Club's flagship project dedicated to reflecting on Russia’s pivot to the East. Among other topics, the panellists will evaluate the collaborative projects that have demonstrated demand in the current situation and will also share their forecasts.

In addition, the Valdai Club prepared a report titled 'Russia and Asia: The Paradoxes of a New Reality' specifically for the Eastern Economic Forum. It comprises a series of situational analyses conducted under the auspices of the club this spring. The experts studied how the peculiarities of regional development and the conflict in Ukraine have affected Russia's bilateral relations with each of the Asia-Pacific countries

The session will be attended by Yuri Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District; Alexander Timchenko, Member of the Board of Directors, FESCO; Anna Bessmertnaya, Chairman of the Commission on Foreign Economic Cooperation with Partners from China, Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation; Wang Wen, Executive Dean, Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, Renmin University of China (RDCY); Chimediin Khurelbaatar, Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Development of Mongolia; Kirill Muzalevsky, First Deputy Head, Foreign Projects and International Cooperation, Russian Railways. Andrey Bystritskiy, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for Development and Support of the Valdai Discussion Club, will deliver the opening remarks at the beginning of the session. The moderator of the discussion will be Timofei Bordachev.

The Valdai International Discussion Club will take part in the business programme of the Eastern Economic Forum for the seventh time.

The 8th Eastern Economic Forum will be held on 10–13 September on the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok.
