ALEXANDER TKACHEV: THE AIM IS FOR THE FAR EAST TO FEED ITSELF

Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation Alexander Tkachev, on the sidelines of SPIEF 2016, talked in a TASS interview about the tasks faced by his department in developing the Far East.

The Minister announced that the priority task consisted in the Far East being able to supply itself with the requisite foodstuffs. “Not only fish, but also meat, milk and so on. The second task, considering the geographical and geopolitical position of the Far East, is to create capacities there for exporting to China and the Asia-Pacific region. So there are several projects and we naturally support them. The aim of the far eastern territories and, above all, the Ministry of Agriculture lies in developing production of foodstuffs there,” Alexander Tkachev noted.

Speaking about the coming Eastern Economic Forum, the Minister stressed that “for us, this is a Forum of investment opportunities, a business platform for attracting resources into implementing major projects in the agricultural sphere.”

The Eastern Economic Forum will take place in Vladivostok on 2–3 September 2016, organized by the Roscongress Foundation.
