The Eastern Economic Forum 2021 will Host the Youth EEF

Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, together with the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation, the Federal Agency for Youth Affairs, the Roscongress Foundation, and the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District, have formed a delegation of young Far East residents who will have the opportunity to attend the main programme panel sessions of the 6th Eastern Economic Forum on 23 September, and to act as speakers and participants in the discussions of the Youth EEF on 4 September.

“This year, for the first time, the youth agenda has been singled out as a separate track in the Eastern Economic Forum’s business programme. We are confident that the participation of young people in the Forum’s discussions will help to generate new ideas and promote projects aimed at developing the Russian Far East”, said Anton Kobyakov, Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the EEF Organizing Committee.

The delegation includes young entrepreneurs, managers, and business owners from the Far East, as well as participants and finalists of the All-Russian “Big Change” competition for schoolchildren and the “Your Move” competition for students. It will also include thought leaders and representatives of creative industries, as well as state and non-profit organizations promoting the development of an entrepreneurial environment.

The participants of the EEF were recruited through an open selection process. Over the course of a week, participants had to send in information about themselves, a project description, or an essay on the development of the Russian Far East. More than 200 applications were received, and 100 young people were given the opportunity to come to Vladivostok.

“We are seeing a new wave of interest among young people in the Far East and are consistently working to involve young people in work to develop the Far East and the Arctic. An agreement with Rosmolodezh on jointly holding an annual youth forum to provide targeted support for initiatives put forward by young people is to be signed on the sidelines of the EEF. We expect to form a youth community in the Far East in order to promote promising ideas and projects. Young people have historically played a key role in the development of our country’s Pacific territories. It is important to continue the traditions, provide as much support as possible and create opportunities and conditions for the active self-fulfilment of young people in the Far Eastern regions”, said Alexey Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic.

Ksenia Razuvaeva, head of Rosmolodezh, noted the importance of investment support for youth projects.

“All major economic forums in Russia have a good tradition of having separate youth days, and this year’s EEF will be no exception. This Forum will be special for young entrepreneurs because this is where they will be able to present their projects to investors and secure partnerships, and meet with government representatives at Rosmolodezh’s stand. This summer, we gathered ideas for national projects, among which was a request for a programme to develop youth entrepreneurship. We worked together with the Ministry of Economic Development on this matter. We are ready to launch it at the EEF in 30 pilot regions of Russia,” said Ksenia Razuvaeva, head of Rosmolodezh.

In total, the EEF 2021 programme includes more than 20 sessions devoted to young people. The key ones, which will involve representatives of the authorities and federal agencies responsible for the implementation of state youth policy, big business, and participants in the youth delegation, will discuss the following topics: “New Ideas and Ideals: The Far East Mission”; “The Next Generation of Entrepreneurs”; “Identifying Opportunities for Young People in the Far East”; “Higher Quality Secondary Education”; “We Are Hooked: Facing the Facts about Social Media”; “Facing East: How Can Young People Find Their Feet on the Labour Market?”.

Meetings are also planned with the leadership of the Far Eastern Federal District, federal ministries, agencies, and well-known athletes. Participants will present their business projects and proposals for inclusion in the National Programme for the Development of the Far East until 2035.

The Youth EEF programme was developed by the Ministry of the Development of the Russian Far East, the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation, Rosmolodezh, Russia – Land of Opportunities, the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, the Far Eastern Federal University, Urban Renovations, and the All-Russian Society of Inventors and Rationalizers.
