SERGEI NARYSHKIN: THE STATE DUMA IS PREPARED TO MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE LAW ON THE FAR EAST HECTARE

At the last meeting with historians and political experts of the Far East, Speaker of the State Duma Sergei Naryshkin announced that, if necessary, the law on the Far East hectare would be adjusted, according to RIA Novosti.

“The well-known law on the Far East hectare was passed just recently. We will, of course, analyse carefully how it works and justifies itself. If necessary, we will make relevant amendments to this law,” Sergei Naryshkin stated.

Under the law, which came into effect on 1 June, Russian citizens may receive, just once, a hectare of land in the Far East free of charge: in Yakutia, Kamchatka, the Primorsky, Khabarovsk, Amur, Magadan and Sakhalin regions, as well as the Jewish Autonomous Region and the Chukotka Autonomous Region. The plot is provided for five years, must be free of third party encumbrances and be in freely tradeable. After five years, if the land has been used, it can be leased or taken into ownership. If the land is not used, it will be withdrawn.
