REPRESENTATIVE OF THE JAPANESE BUSINESS FEDERATION HOPES TO GET CONTRACTS READY FOR THE EEF DURING HIS VISIT TO RUSSIA

Chairman of the Japanese-Russian Economic Committee at the Japanese Business Federation (Keidanren) Mr. Teruo Asada is setting out today on an official visit to Moscow, where he hopes to create a basis for signing new contracts at the Eastern Economic Forum, the TASS News Agency informs.

During his visit to Russia, Teruo Asada plans to hold meetings with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, Minister of Economic Development Alexei Ulyukaev and Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East Alexander Galushka. He says one of his aims during the negotiations will be reduction of administrative barriers for Japanese business in the Far East. “During my meetings with Minister of Economic Development Mr. Ulyukaev and Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East Mr. Galushka, I intend to ask them for more transparent administrative procedures, as these are often stumbling blocks to Japanese business expansion in Russia”, he said.

He also drew attention to the fact that, though Japan joined the regime of sanctions against Russia, Japanese business is not going to put a stop to business contacts with Russia. “In the environment where each country imposed sanctions on Russia because of the Ukrainian crisis, it’s difficult for business to move ahead. However, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe plans to visit the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok this September and I hope that new business contacts will become possible. During my coming visit to Russia, I want to create the basis for such contacts”, Mr. Asada noted.

Representative of the Japanese Business Federation stated that there was a “plan for cooperation between Russia and Japan, consisting of eight points”. This plan was presented to Vladimir Putin during his meeting with Shinzo Abe on 6 May in Sochi, and he plans to propose further elaboration of this plan to the Russian side. In his words, cooperation in the Far East may develop in the area of modernisation of seaports, logistics facilities and agriculture, improvement of the water supply, drainage and sewerage systems, waste recycling, alternative energy and the petrochemical industry.
