EEF 2019 to Host the 8th APEC Conference on Cooperation in Higher Education in Asia-Pacific Region

On 45 September, the 5th Eastern Economic Forum is to host the 8th APEC Conference on Cooperation in Higher Education in Asia-Pacific Region. Official delegations of the Asia-Pacific region countries, including ministers of education, rectors of leading universities, directors of relevant departments, scientists and experts will attend the event. The conference title is APEC in the 21st Century: A New Approach to Education. Recommendations and proposals following the conference will be presented at the APEC summit, which takes place in Chile in November 2019.

Plenary session with the participation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Mikhail Kotyukov and the rector of the Far Eastern Federal University Nikita Anisimov will be the highlight of the conference. Rector of Tokai University (Japan) Kiyoshi Yamada, Rector of Amity University (India) Atul Chauhan and Executive Director of the Organization for University Mobility in Asia and the Pacific (UMAP) Yuko Kobayakawa will also address the meeting. The session will discuss the prospects and limitations of cooperation in science and technology between APEC countries, the role of universities in the economic development of Asia, the shift of universities towards becoming competitive world-class research centres, and the strengthening of cooperation between universities in Russia and Asia-Pacific countries. The plenary session of the conference is scheduled for 4 September.

Another important event of the APEC Education Conference is the Regional and Global Networks: New Tools for the Collaboration session. Deputy Director of the Department of State Policy in Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation Alexander Babich, Vice Rector for International Relations at FEFU Victoria Panova, Chair of the APEC Human Resources Development Working Group Dong Sun Park, Pro Vice-Chancellor International at the University of Southern Queensland Ren Yi will present at the session. The session will present successful regional and global projects in the field of education implemented under the UN, APEC, BRICS, G20 and other international organizations and associations. Participants will also consider the role of scientific and educational centres in achieving the goals set forth by the UNs 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the establishment of regional and global research and hi-tech scientific centres.

The Eastern Economic Forum hosts the APEC Conference on Cooperation in Higher Education for the fifth time.
