DMITRY ROGOZIN: WE NEED TO CREATE A POWERFUL CIVILIAN FLEET IN VLADIVOSTOK

The Russian Deputy Prime Minister stated at a meeting on the progress of state defence orders in the Far Eastern Federal District that the region’s shipbuilding companies should refocus on civilian vessels from 2018.

Russia’s shipbuilders will see a peak of state defence orders in 2017–2018. After the Far East shipbuilders’ workloads start to decline, they need to switch to making civilian ships, according to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin.

“We need to manufacture competitive ships. We can produce the widest possible range even here, in Vladivostok,” he said. The Primorsky Region is home to 20 specialized manufacturers and six special-industry companies involved in state defence contracts.

Dmitry Rogozin said that the new mechanism for allocating quotas and accessing marine resources currently under consideration by the Government could have an impact on development of Russia’s shipbuilding. The idea is to grant fishing rights to entities that invest in fish processing facilities or purchase Russian-made vessels.
