CHINESE COMPANIES TO CONSTRUCT FLOATING TRANSFER DOCK AT ZVEZDA SHIPYARD IN PRIMORSKY TERRITORY

The shipbuilding complex will launch in 2018 for the production of marine engineering facilities for the exploration, extraction and transportation of hydrocarbons.

Zvezda Shipyard, in Russia’s Far East, and Chinese shipbuilding corporations China Shipbuilding & Offshore and Qingdao Beihai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry have signed a contract for the construction and delivery of a floating transfer dock for the Zvezda shipbuilding complex”, announced the Vesti Primorye news portal.

The dock, which will have a carrying capacity of 40,000 tonnes, will provide the technical capabilities required for construction of marine engineering facilities at the shipyard. The Chinese partners are currently drawing up the design documentation, preparing equipment and carrying out checks at the dock.

The Zvezda shipbuilding complex has been under construction in Primorsky Territory since 2009. It is expected that production of marine engineering facilities for the exploration, extraction and transportation of hydrocarbons will begin at the site in 2018. In particular, this will include tankers, gas carriers, ice-class ships, specialised ships, and structures for offshore platforms for the development of Arctic shelf oil and gas deposits.

The main shareholder of Zvezda Shipyard will be a consortium headed by Rosneft. It was previously announced that total investment in construction of the facility would amount to RUB 145 billion.
