ALEXANDER GALUSHKA INVITES REPRESENTATIVE OF THE WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM TO THE EEF

On the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Head of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East Alexander Galushka held talks with member of the Managing Board of the World Economic Forum Murat Sönmez. During the meeting, the sides discussed participation by a Russian delegation in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting of the New Champions 2016 (Summer Davos) in Tianjin (PRC) and the future of the Far East, a Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East press release announces.

In his speech, Murat Sönmez noted that the main aim of the World Economic Forum was to improve communications between business and government in different countries. “We help governments in different countries to see the future in various economic spheres – use of energy, of telecommunications, of financial and monitoring systems, consideration of consumption changes and consumer motivation, and the impact exerted by production on the environment. Russia should be at the centre of these discussions. Russia does not take enough part at international platforms as an active participant in the dialogue on forming the image of the future and discussing major socio-economic subjects,” said Murat Sönmez.

Alexander Galushka expressed the opinion that global economic forums were platforms for creating trends in global development in the economic and social spheres and invited Murat Sönmez to take part in the Eastern Economic Forum on 2–3 September in Vladivostok. The Minister added that representatives of the Forum could participate in the preparations for the special session of the EEF devoted to competitiveness of modern states. “The Far East is a unique area that could become a new growth point of the world economy. New development instruments and institutions are being introduced in the macro-region. These are customer-orientated in relation to the investor, business and individual. Although all these mechanisms were started up only recently, just a year ago, we are seeing the first results of their use. We need your proposals and recommendations. We are open to expert opinion and prepared to discuss what can be done even in the near future in consideration of world experience,” the head of the Ministry announced.

The World Economic Forum is a Swiss non-governmental organization that holds annual meetings in Davos and draws up the agenda for the given forum, which discusses the most acute global problems, including healthcare and environmental protection. The Davos meetings include some 300 plenary sessions, seminars and roundtables, as well as mini-summits between public officials. About 1000 major companies and organisations from different countries, including Russia, are members of the World Economic Forum.
