Agents of Territorial Development: A New Look at Urban Development Institutions

In recent years, non-standard development practices have emerged in certain Russian cities, setting them apart from the broader landscape and resulting in significantly higher rates of socio-economic development. Some of these practices emphasize engagement, while others centre around reinterpreting cultural heritage, and still, others focus on vibrant promotional strategies. What unifies them is a distinctive, ingenious, and creative approach to problem-solving. Let's delve into these practices and attempt to determine whether their successes stem from fortuitous circumstances or if they can offer valuable insights for the development of the Far East region. How feasible are such practices in the Far East? What is happening now?

Education and the Economy

The Far East and the Arctic are of paramount geopolitical and strategic importance for Russia's development. They are home to 11.5 million people and generate 20% of GDP. The last two decades have witnessed depopulation and an outflow of economically active population and qualified personnel.
At the same time, Yakutia already holds the informal status of being the creative industries capital city, thanks to the financial growth of its IT and film sectors.
What kind of education should be offered today to remain competitive and attract both Russian and international students?
How can the quality of education influence the economic development and overall quality of life in the Far Eastern region?
The Far East enjoys both logistical and cultural proximity to the epicentre of the world economy within the Asian macro-region. How can we harness these opportunities?
