EEF 2018 Organising Committee holds its first meeting

On 21 November, Deputy Russian Prime Minister and Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev chaired a meeting in Moscow of the Organizing Committee for Preparation and Holding of the 2018 Eastern Economic Forum.

The fourth Eastern Economic Forum will take place on 6–7 September 2018 on the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University, Russky Island, Vladivostok. The Forum’s Youth Day will be held on 5 September. Within its scope, it is planned, in particular, to have lectures read by leading foreign experts for FEFU students and faculty.

“Over the past three years, the Forum has gained recognition as an international venue for discussing strategic issues of Russia’s integration into the Asia-Pacific space. I would like to note that, during the first six months of 2017, the Far East of Russia accounted for 26% of the direct foreign investment in the country’s economy. I am confident that, going forward, we will succeed in achieving substantial results from this event, which is intended to highlight Russia’s key role in the development of Asia-Pacific, the deepening of constructive multilateral cooperation with the region’s nations and, most importantly, steady promotion of our country’s interests”, Yuri Trutnev said.

The meeting discussed the results of the EEF that took place in September of this year. A record number of participants – 6,095 – attended the Forum, including 1,094 journalists and 878 speakers and moderators who took part in 121 events.

As Anton Kobyakov, adviser to the Russian President, stated: “work is already underway to draw up the EEF-2018 business programme focusing on retaining its sector and investment orientation. The programme’s human capital development track will be boosted”.

The Chairman of the Organizing Committee issued a number of instructions relating to preparation of Vladivostok’s city infrastructure and hotel accommodation, as well as the Forum venue. Separate instructions were issued with regard to the culture and sports programmes, including holding the Jigoro Kano international judo tournament among juniors up to the age of 21 at Fetisov Arena and the ‘Far East Street’ exhibition.

In addition, the meeting discussed the programme for promoting the Forum’s subjects at multilateral platforms in the Asia-Pacific region.
