MORE THAN 2,000 APPLICATIONS FOR A FAR EASTERN HECTARE SUBMITTED

Fourteen plots have already been handed over, and contracts are being negotiated for another 45, reports a press release from the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East.

"The number of applications submitted in the month the project has been running shows the high level of interest in the policy and the opportunity to obtain a plot of land in the Far East. The Far Eastern Hectare programme represents a completely new and unique economic project in Russia's modern history, and it’s working," said Valentin Timakov, General Director of the Agency for the Development of Human Capital in the Russian Far East.

The Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East is currently working alongside regional executive authorities to improve the mechanism for granting the free hectares.

Most of the unsuccessful applications have been rejected for technical reasons. Specialists are reviewing the process on a daily basis and developing solutions to issues as and when they arise.
