EXPORTS FROM PRIMORSKY TERRITORY TO VIETNAM DOUBLE

Director of the Primorsky Territory International Cooperation Department Alexei Starichkov gave an interview to Vietnam Television (VTV), in which he talked about the economic potential of cooperation between the two countries, reports news portal Rambler/Novosti.

During a special programme on Vietnam Television ahead of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), Alexei Starichkov discussed the growing number of economic ties between Russia and Vietnam, emphasising: “The export of products from Primorsky Territory to Vietnam in 2015 increased by more than 50% compared with 2014. In the first quarter of this year, exports from Primorsky Territory to Vietnam doubled compared with the same period last year. The supply of petroleum products and construction materials accounts for a large portion of the growth. However, the potential for trade and economic cooperation between Primorsky Territory and Vietnam is much higher. Primorsky Territory Governor Vladimir Miklushevsky discussed further development of trade links during his visit to the country in March of this year.”

Proposed priority areas for joint projects included: light industry, fish processing, timber processing, tourism and agriculture.

In addition, Mr Starichkov spoke about the increased role of Vladivostok in the Asia-Pacific region. “In Soviet times, Vladivostok was a major naval base. This fact certainly hampered the region’s development. Twenty-five years ago, Vladivostok became an open city. Today, Primorsky Territory is the biggest centre of Russia’s integration into the Asia-Pacific region.” As evidence of this fact, he noted the APEC summit held in Vladivostok, the first EEF, and now the second Forum, which will be held in September and will bring together the leaders of many Asian countries. It will also serve as a platform for discussion of the further development of trade and economic relations between Russia and Vietnam.
