At a meeting in Yakutsk with supporters and activists of the ruling party United Russia, the Russian Prime Minister revealed that the government would try to safeguard spending on all development programmes in the region, even given the potential need to balance the budget in light of the current economic climate, according to a press release issued by the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East.
Medvedev noted that more is now being spent on the development of the Russian Far East than was the case a few years ago, and that but for the current economic challenges, the Russian Government would have been able to invest even more in the region. “We will do our best to maintain what we have achieved over the past few years at the same level”, said the Prime Minister.
According to Medvedev, the specific geographical features of the Russian Far East and the existing disparities in the development of different regions should not be ignored. He stressed that the principles of providing targeted funding to boost development in the Russian Far East were wholly applicable to the eastern regions.
The wide-ranging discussion covered topics such as career guidance for school leavers, increasing the number of vocational and technical institutions, and the need to produce more graduates in technical disciplines and healthcare professionals. Aspects of infrastructure development in the Russian Far East were also raised, including the provision of a gas supply to remote areas and the construction of a bridge over the Lena River.
Medvedev said that the current state of all the areas discussed would be analysed and appropriate actions taken.

Russia and Bahrain Look to Intensify Cultural and Humanitarian Cooperation
Advisor to the Russian President Anton Kobyakov held a meeting in Moscow with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Russian Federation Ahmed Al-Saati, during which the two officials discussed a wide range of issues concerning economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries and reached a number of agreements.

Selection Underway for Third Installment of Far East State Management Personnel Training Programme
