Questions for the Skolkovo Foundation

Given the changing landscape of global markets, the role of prominent development institutions is undergoing changes. Today, the focus is on solutions and developments that aim to ensure the country’s independence from imports in information technology, medicine, energy efficiency, and industry.
What role do development institutions play in the struggle for technological sovereignty? How is the government helping tech businesses today? Can companies adapt to the needs of the domestic market?
In the impromptu ring of the Innovation Space, leaders from the Skolkovo Foundation will answer some of the most pressing questions from startups, scientists, students, and the media. In turn, Skolkovo residents and project founders will answer questions from development institutions.
Questions include:
● The Skolkovo Foundation has always been associated with grants and support for companies in their early stages. Today, funding is shrinking and is low as it’s ever been. What’s next?
● Startups view any opportunity to leave the Russian market today as a chance and a golden ticket even though the Russian market has all kinds of new niches and earning opportunities today that did not exist a year ago. How can we change attitudes to incentivize companies to meet the demand in Russia?
● No company will achieve results without making its own efforts towards development. By shifting responsibility for the result to a development institution, it’s impossible to become a unicorn in your industry or simply a commercially successful company. How can we educate young tech entrepreneurs to be proactive and is this possible? Or does it depend solely on the personal qualities of the founder?

Speakers:
Igor Drozdov — Chairman of the Board, Skolkovo Foundation

Friends of Cities: Will Russian Cities be Sustainable and Innovative in the New Reality?

The global community had been largely focusing on the new urban development agenda and the goal of ensuring the sustainable development of innovative cities prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following the pandemic restrictions and the geopolitical fault that has emerged along the North–South line two years later, global cities are increasingly focusing on their own autonomous development, and the concept of ‘sustainability’ has taken on a slightly different meaning.
How can Russian cities meet the criteria for sustainable development in the new realities of diminished global food and energy? What role does technology play in this? How will the new waves of the pandemic affect the restructuring of urban agglomerations? What experience can Moscow, members of the new generation of entrepreneurs, and Friends For Leadership leaders offer the world?
