Under the Venetian Sky: Vedute of the 18th Century from the Intesa Sanpaolo Collection

There is probably no person on earth who has not heard of the extraordinary beauty of Venice. The city is associated with a myriad of timeless symbols – carnivals, palazzos, the flooded Piazza San Marco, the picture-postcard Rialto Bridge, fans and masks.
A veduto (“view” in Italian) is a painting which depicts an everyday cityscape. By the mid-18th century, Venice had become the recognized centre of vedute painting.
At the head of the Venetian school of vedutisti was Giovanni Antonio Canal, commonly known as Canaletto. His work came to serve as a paragon for successive generations of cityscape painters. Among those to be influenced by Canaletto’s work were the talented artists Francesco Guardi and Michele Marieschi. The exhibition will provide participants and guests of the Eastern Economic Forum with the chance to view one of the museum collections of the Intesa Sanpaolo Italian banking group.

The City’s Role in the Fate of the Fortress (city walking tour)

In days gone by, Vladivostok was considered to have the best sea fortress in the world. But that had not always been the case. After the vast territories of the east became part of Russia, it became essential to ensure that they were developed and protected. The remote location of these new lands from the centre of the empire was a key factor. This tour will tell the story of the creation of Vladivostok Fortress, of the people who dedicated themselves to it, and of the difficulties they had to overcome in order to build a magnificent fortification on the Pacific coast.
Participants wishing to attend should register in advance via the personal web office. The number of places is limited.

Sockeye Salmon. Red Fish (documentary)

Sockeye Salmon. Red Fish tells the story of one of Kamchatka Territory’s greatest riches. This species of wild salmon is born at the Yuzhno-Kamchatsky Reserve – a specially protected natural area of national importance – and supports the prosperity of the region’s residents.
This is the story of the salmon’s difficult journey, and of the people who depend on it. The film features stunning protected landscapes, and shows what we stand to lose if the wild salmon disappear.
The film also casts light on urgent issues related to using fish resources while maintaining the delicate balance between nature and humanity’s needs. It had its world premiere at the Thin Line Festival (USA) in March 2020, and since that time has been selected for 136 film festivals in 38 countries, and picked up 40 awards.
Sockeye Salmon. Red Fish has also been afforded the honour of closing the 6th Doker International Documentary Film Festival in Moscow on 30 August.
Directed by Dmitry Shpilenok and Vladislav Grishin.
