Japan to present Russia with a plan for upgrading Vladivostok’s infrastructure

The Government of Japan plans to propose to Russia a plan for modernizing the urban infrastructure of Vladivostok using Japanese technology, including enhanced traffic management, development of tourist attractions and development of areas surrounding railway stations. This plan has been prepared ahead of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s visit to Russia in May and will soon be handed over to Russian officials, Nikkei newspaper reported.

Japan’s offer involves construction of new tourist attractions, modernization and enhancement of areas surrounding the city’s railway stations, and introduction of an automatic traffic light control system reacting to traffic density. Japan also suggests repairing old sewerage pipes without earth excavation works and creating incineration facilities modelled on Japanese machines to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
