A
round of the World Curling Tournament for mixed doubles will be held on 3–5 September in
Vladivostok as part of the 5th Eastern Economic Forum sporting
programme. National teams of Russia, China, South Korea, Australia and Japan
will take part in the competition. The tournament will also include the
Roscongress Cup for EEF 2019 participants and accredited media.
“The international
season for Russian doubles will start in Vladivostok. We invite strong teams,
and Primorye residents will have an opportunity to watch world-class curling.
We hope that after the tournament this sport will become more popular, and many
children will join sports sections. The fact that the tournament is a part of
the Eastern Economic Forum allows to reach out to a new business audience; and
we are interested in widening cooperation with the Roscongress Foundation,” noted President of the
Russian Curling Federation Dmitry Svishchyov.
The competition will be held at the ICE Tiger arena. The plans for its construction were first announced at EEF 2015. It took two years to build the sports complex with the area of 3,500 square metres. This World Curling Tournament round will become its international debut.
During
the WCT Pacific Ocean Cup at EEF 2019, a groundbreaking ceremony for a
specialized ice arena for curling in Vladivostok will be held. "It is hard
to overestimate the region’s significance in the lead-up to the Olympic Games in
Beijing. The sports centre to be constructed here will become a training ground
for the Russian team and a curling development centre in the Far East,"
emphasized Dmitry Svishchyov.
