Sakhalin Region
will participate in the ‘Far East Street’ exhibition
that will be held on 3–8 September in
Vladivostok as part of the 5th Eastern Economic Forum.
In 2018, the
pavilion of Sakhalin Region became the best among expositions of the Far
Eastern regions. This year visitors will see the same structure shaped as two gigantic
incident waves, with minor changes. One of the waves will simulate a sailboat, and
a gray whale will plunge under the other one. The choice of this sea animal was
deliberate: a population of gray whales lives in the Sea of Okhotsk, on the
northeast Sakhalin shelf. This species is listed in the Russian Red Book and the
Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature, but over the
last 10 years their population level has been rapidly restoring.
There will be
several areas inside the Sakhalin pavilion. ‘Economy and
investment’ will tell about strategic
development projects of the island, ASEZ residents, regional development
institutes, national projects, and the Far Eastern Hectare success stories.
A separate area
will be dedicated to oil and gas. 2019 is a multiple-anniversary year in the industry:
25 years of Sakhalin Energy; 20 years ago the first oil was extracted on the Sakhalin
shelf from the Molikpaq platform; 20 years ago gas extraction from the first Russian
offshore ice-resistant platform Lunskaya-A began; 10 years ago the first LNG
plant in Russia was launched. On the lake next to the pavilion a miniature liquified
gas carrier model will be installed.
‘Tourism and
Leisure’ area will be presented
in a separate pavilion where guests will learn about the development of regional
tourist infrastructure. Visitors will have an opportunity to ‘fly’ a paraglider
simulator and enjoy island’s landscapes with a
bird’s eye view with VR
glasses, as well as ‘ski’ downhill
and feel the adrenaline. Also, at the pavilion visitors will be able to see region’s landmarks,
get souvenirs, send a photo postcard from the exposition to any place in the
world, participate in a lottery and win a free trip to Sakhalin.
From
3 to 6 September the exhibition will be open to EEF guests and participants;
on 7 September a social day is planned for multiple children families, retired
people, veterans and representatives of youth organizations. On 8 September, the
exhibition will be open for all comers.
