Sporting Results of EEF 2021

The Eastern Economic Forum held in Vladivostok was packed with sporting events.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the plenary session of the EEF, thanked the leadership and all the people of Japan, as well as the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee, for successfully hosting the Olympic Games. The President's words were delivered in the hall where wrestlers prepared for the Olympics in July. Wrestler Musa Evloev's Tokyo 2020 gold medal was one of the exhibits at the Ministry of Sport pavilion, which was first unveiled at the EEF with the support of the Roscongress Foundation.

Fencers Alexander Kuzyukov and Maxim Shaburov, winners of the Tokyo Paralympic Games, took an active part in the Ministry of Sport's pavilion. One of the main events was a teleconference between Vladivostok and Tokyo. "A low bow to you, a huge thank you for your victories. Thank you for your heroism in sport and in life. Here in Russia, in every corner, we try to show our support for you. Once again, we have shown how we can win together. I am sure that in a short time, our flag and anthem will be flying and sounding in all sports arenas," Minister of Sport Oleg Matytsin said to the Russian Paralympians.

Athletes from 10 countries participated in the competitions at EEF 2021. The Russian and world junior judo teams met at the International Jigoro Kano Judo Tournament held under the patronage of the Russian President. The world team was formed by the winners and medallists of the 2019 World Junior Championships from Germany, Turkey, the Netherlands, Hungary, France, and Tajikistan. After six main matches, the score was 3-3. Daria Vladimirova brought the victory for the Russian team in the golden score, taking revenge on France's Tahina Durand for her defeat at the World Championships. Valery Yendovitsky and Irina Zueva also won the match. The awards ceremony was attended by Minister of Sport Oleg Matytsin and Arkady Rotenberg, head of the International Judo Federation.

Two-time world curling champions Dorottya Palancsa and Zsolt Kis of Hungary won the World Tour stage, which was held for the second time as part of the EEF sports programme. Curling players from Russia, Kazakhstan, Poland, and Switzerland also took part in the tournament. On the eve of the tournament, the construction of an ice centre for the Russian national curling team in Vladivostok was launched. "The capsule of the facility was laid at the EEF 2019. The project was approved by the state expert appraisal during the pandemic, and all permits were obtained. Excavation work is now actively underway. We expect that the ice arena will be completed in 15 months. It will be one of the strongest curling training centres in the Asia-Pacific region and will also be able to host major tournaments," said Dmitry Svishchev, President of the Russian Curling Federation.

The Russian Surfing Championships in the non-Olympic but very spectacular paddleboard and longboard disciplines were integrated into the EEF 2021 programme with the support of RC-Sport, the sports platform of the Roscongress Foundation. "The Russian Far East has great potential for surfing development. Almost every one of our surfers has been to Kamchatka, the Kuril Islands, and Primorye. Here we ride the same Pacific waves that come to Hawaii. We cooperate with surf schools in these regions. Team Russia needs its own training centre here. At the same time, surfing can become a popular destination for tourism, including inbound tourism", said Andrei Knaus, president of the Russian Surf Federation.

The waters were not conquered at the EEF 2021 on just a board. Rock 'n' Roll Under A Sail was the name of the Roscongress Cup regatta in the 25 class, held on yachts named after legendary bands. Competition in the Amur Bay area was won by the crew of the yacht Depeche Mode, headed by captain Valery Dichenko from the Seven Futs club. The teams on the Mumiy Troll and Brigada C yachts were also among the top three prize-winners. Igor Pavlov, director of the Eastern Economic Forum, presented awards to the winners and runners-up.

Forum participants also proved themselves in sports arenas. The curling tournament was won by a team from the Roscongress Foundation and the Vladivostok administration. The tournament, supported by the Russian Curling Federation, featured teams from Nornickel, led by the company's Vice President Dmitry Pristanskov, the National Congress Bureau, and the State Sports Museum.

Minister of Labour and Social Protection Anton Kotyakov, head of Federal Agency for Youth Affairs Ksenia Razuvaeva, deputy head of FAS Pyotr Ivanov, CEO of Russian Environmental Operator Denis Butsaev, and other participants of EEF 2021 played a friendly basketball match called the Skolkovo Eastern Game. Among the participants in the Skolkovo Eastern Game, the ultramarathoner Dmitry Yakukhny is noteworthy. During a period of self-isolation, he couldn't make it to the 250km Sahara marathon and instead ran 100km in 10 hours around his bed!

On the eve of the EEF in Moscow, a gala hockey match was held with the participation of Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Alexey Besprozvannykh, hockey legends Sergey Svetlov and Alexey Yashin, Vostok Resorts CEO Dmitry Anfinogenov, and President of Rotex Evgeny Romaskevich. MANTERA Group was the general partner of the EEF club sports programme. Sports events for EEF participants were supported by the Roscongress Sports Club, which runs a year-round programme for successful people who care about sports.
