Delegation from Association of Russian-Chinese Business Council Visits Kamchatka Region

A delegation from the Association of the Russian-Chinese Business Council paid a visit to the Kamchatka Region and held a meeting with the region’s governor, Vladimir Solodov. During the meeting, the heads of the executive authorities, businesses, and public associations of the Kamchatka Region and representatives of major Chinese state-owned corporations and companies discussed possible areas of cooperation in various sectors of the economy. The visit took place with the support of the Russian-Chinese Business Council, the Chinese Embassy in Russia, the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Roscongress Foundation.

“The Kamchatka Region is one of the most rapidly developing regions of Russia. Sustainable and promising industries are the cornerstone of our region. Today, we are actively developing the necessary transport and tourism infrastructure: roads are being built, mooring facilities are being modernized, and hotels and an airport building are actively under construction. We would be happy to involve Chinese businesses in this laborious process. It is crucial for us to attract the best world expertise to build much-needed infrastructure,” Solodov said in his welcoming address to the delegation of Chinese entrepreneurs.

Dmitry Korostelev, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Kamchatka Region, stressed the importance of increasing foreign trade turnover with China. “At present, exports to the People’s Republic of China are increasing multi-fold for all items. For example, salmon supplies have increased by nine times, and nickel by five times,” he said.

The meeting participants also considered the current situation in the monetary sector in terms of interaction with Chinese banks and expressed interest in expanding partnerships with the chambers of commerce and industry of Chinese regions.

During the visit, members of the delegation of the Association of the Russian-Chinese Business Council learned about investment projects in tourism and agriculture. In addition, they discussed opportunities for joint cooperation in the fishing industry, waste processing, and projects to build vital infrastructure, and paid particular attention to international tourism and the development of environmental projects.

The dialogue with representatives of the Association of the Russian-Chinese Business Council will continue at the 7th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF), which will be held in Vladivostok on 5–8 September. The Forum is being organized by the Roscongress Foundation.
