Russian–Chinese Relations to Gain a New Trajectory at EEF 2018

Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov met the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Russia Li Hui in Moscow, and they discussed Russian–Chinese cooperation at multilateral international economic forums.

The parties noted the comprehensive strategic nature of the Russian–Chinese partnership and the effectiveness of the trust-based dialogue across the board, primarily between the leaders of our states.

Preparation of the visit of the representative delegation of the People’s Republic of China to the Eastern Economic Forum 2018 received special consideration at the meeting.

“The Eastern Economic Forum is an important much sought after international event that has a great impact on the global community, especially in the countries of Northeast Asia, and we notice this attention. The preparatory work is at the highest level, the team bears a tremendous responsibility for the preparation of the event,” said Chinese Ambassador Li Hui.

The meeting considered various formats of the Forum’s events, including a photo exhibition dedicated to the achievements of Russian–Chinese cooperation, as well as the tall ships regatta Far Eastern Cup en-route Qingdao–Vladivostok as a part of the sporting programme of EEF 2018.

“The international sailing regatta is to become a lively event of the Interregional Cooperation Year 2018–2019, as it has been agreed between the heads of the states of Russia and China, and of the Eastern Economic Forum, where the winners of one of the stages of the competition will receive their awards,” said Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Igor Morgulov.

In addition, the parties discussed Russian–Chinese cooperation in preparation for the meeting of the Council of SCO Heads of State and the BRICS summit in Chelyabinsk in 2020.

Summarizing the meeting, Anton Kobyakov emphasized that “the agreements between the Chinese organizations and the Roscongress Foundation allow us to support and diversify the joint Russian–Chinese operations on the Forum’s track, and we would like to develop them further. We hope that the Chinese media will also vest interest in the event and bring informational support. The Eastern Economic Forum is an important communication platform that facilitates networking and dialogue between the business communities of the Asia–Pacific region. Discussion of the implementation of joint Russian–Chinese projects in the Far East is one of the topics for the Russia–China Business Dialogue. I am confident that the participation of a representative Chinese delegation will significantly contribute to the further strengthening of trade and economic ties between our states.”
