Roscongress Foundation supports the implementation of the national project ‘Data Economy’ within the framework of key business events

During 2024, the Roscongress Foundation actively promoted the implementation of the national project ‘Data Economy’. Discussions on the prospects for its development were organized at leading business platforms together with the Association of Data Processing Centres.

“In recent years, we have seen a significant increase in the volume of data processed in Russia, which makes the development of data centres one of the key tasks to ensure sustainable economic growth and digital transformation of the country. The creation of modern infrastructure, including in the Far East regions, will not only help speed up processes in domestic companies, but also attract international partners – a number of companies in Asia Pacific are showing interest. The development of data centres will be an important step in strengthening Russia’s competitiveness in the global market and creating conditions for the implementation of future projects in the field of artificial intelligence and big data,” said Igor Pavlov, Deputy CEO of the Roscongress Foundation and Director of the Eastern Economic Forum.

One of the important events was the event ‘Data Economy and Regional Data Centres’ held on the platform of the Governors’ Club of the Eastern Economic Forum. The discussion was attended by representatives of leading Russian and foreign companies, such as VEB.RF, Russian Railways, LeoMining (Vietnam), as well as heads of authorities and experts. The discussion focused on the creation of infrastructure to support data growth and the digital economy, as well as the prospects for developing a network of regional data centres, including the Far East.

Data centres will become drivers of digital transformation, attracting large companies and corporations such as Roscosmos, Gazpromneft, Rostelecom, Rosatom, Yandex, Ozon, Sistema, Magnit, and others. Chinese and Vietnamese companies are also interested in using data centres and locating computing facilities.

Dmitry Grigorenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation – Head of the Government Office of the Russian Federation, stressed in his speech at the EEF that annual government orders for the construction of data centres are increasing by 20–30%. The development of artificial intelligence will require further investment in data processing infrastructure.

The Roscongress Foundation will continue to work on developing cooperation with the Association of Data Processing Centres and other big data market participants within the framework of key communication platforms, among them: St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Eastern Economic Forum and Russian Energy Week.

A situation centre for the development of the ‘Data Economy’ national project will be presented by the Roscongress Foundation and the Association of Data Processing Centres with the participation of leading industry players at SPIEF as part of the Governors' Club.

The Eastern Economic Forum 2024 was held on 3–6 September at the Far Eastern Federal University campus in Vladivostok. The EEF is organized by the Roscongress Foundation.
