EEF 2021 Releases Sports Programme

The annual International Jigoro Kano Judo Tournament held under the patronage of Russian President Vladimir Putin will take place on 4 September in Vladivostok as part of the sports and entertainment programme of the Eastern Economic Forum. The tournament will be held in a new format, with a match between the junior teams of Russia and the world.

“The international judo tournament has become a sporting hallmark of the EEF. Given the age and level of the participants, it will become a showcase for potential Olympians in Paris 2024. It was largely thanks to the Jigoro Kano tournament that the judokas were among the first of the Olympians to test the capabilities of the Primorsky Territory in terms of preparing for the Olympic Games in Tokyo. This summer Vladivostok was simultaneously preparing for the Eastern Economic Forum and hosted the final stage of training for Russian national teams in 15 sports. The theme of creating centres for Russian national teams in the Far East will be continued as part of the Forum’s business programme and at the pavilion of the Ministry of Sport on the ‘Far East Street’,” said Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the Russian President and Executive Secretary of the Eastern Economic Forum Organizing Committee.

The World Series of Mixed Doubles Curling will be held under the auspices of the EEF for the second time. The tournament in Vladivostok will kick off the international Olympic season in this sport.

The EEF 2021 sports programme includes the Russian surfing championship. Surfing became an Olympic sport in Tokyo 2020 and will continue in Paris 2024. Vladivostok will determine the best of the best in Russia in the long board and SUP (paddle board) sports. They are not Olympic sports yet, but are just as good.

The programme of the 2nd Far Eastern Games Interregional Festival includes tournaments for the Ready for Labour and Defence contest, 3-on-3 basketball, mini-football, tug-of-war, checkers, chess, kettlebell lifting, mas-wrestling, and table tennis. The competition will be attended by teams consisting of employees from the state and municipal authorities of the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District.

Vladivostok will also host a football match between the teams of the Khabarovsk Territory and the Primorsky Territory as part of the Far Eastern Youth Football League U-15.

The operator of the EEF 2021 sports and entertainment programme is RC-Sport, the sports platform of the Roscongress Foundation.
