Russia-China Agreement to Create Border Crossing on the Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island to Be Signed at EEF 2018

Presentation of the joint project for development of the island is also expected at the Forum, Prime Business News Agency reports.

To start the work on the project, it is necessary to sign an intergovernmental agreement, which should be prepared for the 4th Eastern Economic Forum, noted Alexander Kozlov, Head of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East.

The western part of the Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island, located near Khabarovsk, was transferred to China in 2008, on the basis of the agreement between the governments of the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China. The island is connected to both sides with road bridges. The proposal to assign the cargo-passenger status to the border crossing was put forward earlier this year in April. It is expected that this will promote the territory among investors and will allow to increase the export cargo traffic up to 1.2 million tons by 2025.
