The 5th Far Eastern Media Summit Discussed the Development of the Far East

Journalists, media experts, representatives of government agencies and development institutions of the region, and public associations are participating in the largest regional information and communication technologies event taking place on 6–8 June in Vladivostok, Interfax reports.

The Acting Governor of Primorye Territory Andrei Tarasenko, the Vice Minister of Telecom and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation Alexey Volin, the Chairman of the Russian Union of Journalists Vladimir Solovyov, the Dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs of the Higher School of Economics Sergey Karaganov joined the opening ceremony and the plenary session of the Media Summit.

‘ASEZ and FPV in the spotlight. The Results of the Regimes Functioning’, one of the panel sessions of the Media Summit summed up the intermediate results and the progress of the Far Eastern Advanced Special Economic Zones and the Free Port of Vladivostok. According to the General Director of the Far East Development Corporation Denis Tikhonov, residents of the ASEZ and FPV have so far implemented 112 projects and created 12,000 jobs. The Corporation also expects 189 implemented projects and 15,000 new jobs by the end of 2018.

At the Media Summit, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation – Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev and Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East Alexander Kozlov met with editors of the leading media of the Far East. The development of the region with special consideration given to the issues of fisheries regulations was the main subject of the meeting.

“Regulation of the fishing industry is an important issue. I am positive about the quotas in exchange for building new fishing vessels; this scheme deserves a closer look. But the fact that we have already received applications proves we are on the right way,” said Yury Trutnev.

In addition, media representatives touched upon the development of transportation routes, the expansion of border crossing points, the allotment of land plots under the Far Eastern Hectare programme and the architectural development of Vladivostok.

Also at the Media Summit Yury Trutnev and Alexander Kozlov together with bloggers discussed the issues the youth of Far East is facing today. Alexander Kozlov stated that the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East will support youth recruiting projects, as well as students’ internships in foreign universities.

The first Far Eastern Media Summit, the industry conference of media, public relations and information technologies experts, was organized in Primorye in 2014. This year, the event gathered 3,500 specialists.
