On 8 September 2022 at
08:00, the Clean Games – a team competition to clean up the green belt in which
participants will compete in collecting and sorting waste – will kick off on
the shore of Labour Bay on Russky Island as part of the 7th Eastern Economic
Forum.
At the event, participants will compete in speedy
litter picking, join a contest for the best find and receive prizes during the
awards ceremony. Clean Games is a new and interesting format. The games, on the
one hand, promote cleaning up the forest and water areas and, on the other
hand, involve people in volunteering, environmental education, landscaping and
teaching them how to interact with the environment in a sustainable way.
Mindful approaches to environment and the planet’s resources contribute to
economic growth that is not harmful to the environment and helps to meet the
objectives set out in national projects in the fields of the environment,
education, housing, and urban development.
“One of the themes of last year’s Eastern Economic
Forum was 'Cleaning Up the Planet: the Circular Economy’. The Clean Games
eco-project is involved in volunteer litter clean-ups across Russia and in 27
other countries around the world. We are extremely impressed by this wording.
Furthermore, one of the key decisions during last year's discussion was to
foster a responsible attitude to separate waste collection amongst the public
and businesses, which directly corresponds to one of the aims of the existence
of the Clean Games – the concept of sustainable development. We believe that
the Clean Games at EEF 2022 should be a direct continuation of the 2021
discussion, and also complement the tracks of the Forum, dedicated to the
environmental agenda of this year,” said Dmitry Ioffe, Chairman of the Board,
Clean Games.
A training session on organizing and running the Clean Games was held in Primorye Territory last spring, soon followed by the first Primorye Territory Cleanliness Cup as part of the Russian Cleanliness Cup. All-Russia Clean Games championships take place every year, bringing together regions of our country to develop mindful approaches to nature, environment and the planet’s resources.
