The Eastern
Economic Forum Sports Games will welcome the stars of curling, hockey, chess,
and rowing to Vladivostok on 3–6 September. The Eastern Economic Forum is
organized by the Roscongress Foundation, and the sports programme is the work
of the Roscongress Foundation’s sports platform – RC Sport.
“The EEF Sports
Games always combine international tournaments for the world’s best athletes,
competitions for Forum participants, and big, exciting events for the residents
of Vladivostok. And the programme for the Games is designed in such a way as to
use sport to introduce new facilities, important projects, and opportunities
for tourism in the regions of the Far East,” Advisor to the President of the
Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the EEF Organizing Committee
Anton Kobyakov said.
As in the past,
the morning of 4 September will kick off at the Forum with a race heading out
from the Primorsky Oceanarium. This year’s run is dedicated to the World
Friendship Games, now scheduled for 2025.
Forum participants
will join up with hockey legends Vyacheslav Fetisov, Alexey Kasatonov, and
Sergey Fedorov in a gala match under the auspices of the Made in Russia brand.
EEF participants will also get a chance to take part in chess, curling, and
table tennis tournaments.
The Pacific Cup
Vladivostok will bring mixed doubles curling back to the sports programme.
“The competition
will be held at the new curling arena, built on the instructions of Russian
President Vladimir Putin, and construction also kicked off at the Eastern
Economic Forum,” President of the Russian Curling Federation Dmitry Svishchev
said.
Russia’s most
decorated curler, three-time European champion and four-time world championship
medallist Kira Ezeh and multiple-time national champion Oleg Krasikov will take
to the ice against world championship bronze medallist Alexander Eremin and
Valeria Denisenko. The organizers are currently working to ensure strong
international representation at the tournament.
“Experience gained
at the EEF was used in the summer of 2021 as Vladivostok played host to the
Russian national teams entering the final stage of preparation for the Summer
Olympics in Tokyo. And now Russian curling has its own home in the capital of
Primorye Territory,” CEO of the Russian National Team
Centre for Athletic Training and Member of the Roscongress Foundation
Supervisory Board Georgy Bryusov said.
Reigning Russian
chess champion Vladislav Artemiev will make the trip to Vladivostok once again
this year to defend his title at the EEF Cup, taking place for the third time.
Two-time world blitz champion Valentina Gunina will also take part in the
tournament.
The Russian Rowing
Federation will introduce a new discipline, coastal rowing, to the Vladivostok
International Regatta.
As in past years,
the EEF Sports Games programme also includes some spectacular water events. The
International Parade of Sail will bring together large training ships, foreign
teams, and five sailing regattas. Professional yachtsmen from the Far East will
race Platu 25 class yachts. The EEF programme will wrap up on 7 September with
an exciting evening hydroflight show. Russian champions will perform
complicated stunts and acrobatics over the water, with LED costumes and
fireworks adding to the excitement.
The EEF sporting
events will also kick off over the water with the Radio Monte Carlo Regatta on
18 August in Moscow in the lead up to the main programme. The sporting and
social event will combine sport, music, and important discussions.
The EEF Sports Games
programme can be found on the official Forum website.
