A delegation of students from North America’s leading universities met with students and teachers of the Far Eastern Federal University as part of the 4th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. Young American political scientists, financiers, entrepreneurs, experts in international relations, and IT specialists from Ivy League universities participated in the event (Stanford, Notre Dame, Columbia, Cornell, Brown, Princeton, and the University of Pennsylvania).
FEFU Vice President for International Relations Victoria Panova was on hand to greet the foreign guests at the ‘Russian-American Dialogue: Youth Viewpoint’ meeting. “FEFU is a university on the cutting-edge, one of the largest not only in Russia but also in the Asia-Pacific region. And it is very important for us to give students from different countries the opportunity to work together on projects. In a few years you will all become leaders in governmental or public organizations, in the academic world, or in business. And to be successful, you need to be open, ready for dialogue, and you must understand and take into account the particular characteristics of different cultures,” Panova said.
Victoria Panova also noted that this is the first major visit of students from the United States to Russia organized as a part of the EEF at the insistence of the Russian-American Cooperation Initiative (an American public organization) and the Roscongress Foundation and with the support of the Russian Embassy in the United States and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“I am sure that friendship between Russian and American students will help give birth to new constructive ties and build bridges between our peoples,” Panova added.
During the course of the dialogue, students exchanged views on the effect Russia’s turn towards the East will have for different countries and the role of our country in the economy of the Asia-Pacific region. The way relations between Russia, the USA, and other countries are developing and what needs to be done to improve international relations between the East and the West were also discussed. The young guests also shared their impressions of participating in the Eastern Economic Forum, discussed the prospects for the development of the Russian Far East, and talked about their plans for the future in their studies and professional activities.

Preparations for EEF 2024 Underway
Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev held the first preparatory meeting for the 9th Eastern Economic Forum. Topics included in the agenda range from future technologies and the development of transport infrastructure to the modernization of energy systems.
