4th Eastern Economic Forum to Discuss Energy Cooperation in the Far East

Energy cooperation in the Far East, the use of new technologies, and other topical issues related to the modern energy sector will be front and centre at the 4thEastern Economic Forum, which is to be held 11-13 September in Vladivostok. The Forum’s business programme has several panel sessions devoted to energy related issues and promises to involve representatives from regulatory bodies and industry leaders from Russia and the Asia-Pacific region.

The “New Energy Markets: The Far Eastern Vector” session will look at the journey of Russia’s Far East towards becoming an important energy centre for the Asia-Pacific region. The discussion will involve Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak and Chairman of the State Grid Corporation of China Shu Yinbiao and will analyse Russia’s ability to meet the region's energy needs as well as the challenges facing the development of the energy market in the Asia-Pacific region and its general outlook.

As part of the “Oil and Gas Processing: Creating a New Industry Cluster” discussion, the potential of Russia’s Far East in relation to the development of petrochemical projects, including advantages resulting from its geographical location and the availability of natural resources will be considered. Participants will discuss what kind of energy products will be in demand in domestic and foreign markets and the prospects for the small-scale LNG market in the region. Speakers include Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Pavel Sorokin, and the session will be moderated by Anton Poryadin, Partner, Head of Strategyand Transformation Practice in CIS, EY.

The “Energy Cooperation in Northeast Asia” session will focus on opportunities for strengthening intraregional cooperation in the energy sector, ensuring energy security, and developing scientific and technological cooperation with an eye to the specific patterns in place for energy production and consumption in the region. Leading international energy experts will answer questions about the role of Russian energy in Northeast Asia and how to ensure a transition to sustainable production and consumption of energy in the region.

EEF 2018 will also touch on the development of the world’s oceanic energy resources.

Discussion of these and other energy related issues will continue as part of the business programme of the International Forum “Russian Energy Week” (REW 2018), which is to be held 3-6 October in Moscow in the Central Exhibition Hall “Manege”.
