Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre

The Queen of Spades, opera by Pyotr Tchaikovsky

Conductor: Pavel Smelkov. The part of Herman will be performed by Maxim Aksenov.

The Queen of Spades is a wonderful opera composed by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, based on the novel of the same name by Alexander Pushkin. The opera will be performed in Yuri Temirkanov’s famous 1984 interpretation, considered by many to be the greatest operatic performance to have been staged at the Mariinsky Theatre. This production is adored by actors and audiences alike for many reasons, including the well-thought-out stage settings that follow the composer’s directions precisely, the faithful recreation of the spirit of the era, and the fact that everything is ‘as it is written’: the openwork fence of the Summer Garden, the great ball at the palace of one of Catherine the Great’s noblemen, the Winter Canal where the poor Lisa drowned, and the turbulent atmosphere of the gambling house.

To attend these events, you must present a ticket, which you can request via the Personal Web Office. Tickets are to be paid for separately by each participant.
