The 4th Eastern Economic Forum Sporting Programme Released

Guests and participants of the 4th Eastern Economic Forum, which takes place in Vladivostok on 11–13 September, along with the business schedule, are in for a rich sporting programme.

“The Sporting Programme of the Eastern Economic Forum has become a significant platform for the promotion of sporting projects and sport itself to the business audience. This year it gains the Eastern touch, merging popular in the Asia-Pacific Region Olympic and non-Olympic sports. Many of the upcoming sports events exemplify cooperation between countries, which is thoroughly consistent with the ideas of the Easter Economic Forum,” noted Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee of the Eastern Economic Forum.

The central sports event of EEF 2018 is the Second International Jigoro Kano Junior Judo Tournament for the athletes under 18 years of age held under the patronage of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe, which is to take place on 12 September. KCK Fetisov–Arena hosts the tournament of the top judokas: national teams of Russia, Japan, Mongolia, China and South Korea. This year the tournament is to be held in the line fight format, which is to become an Olympic format starting from Tokyo 2020 games. The tournament is held under the auspices of the International Judo Federation (IJF). Yuri Trutnev, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister, Presidential Envoy to the Far East, heads the Organizing Committee of the tournament. Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation, the Russian Judo Federation and the Primorye Territory Administration are the organizers, and the Roscongress Foundation is the operator of the event.

The Far Eastern Corporate Games, taking place in SC Olympiets, open the sporting programme of the Forum on 8 September. Teams of the region’s leading companies and local state agencies are to compete in nine sports, including futsal, basketball, chess, and others. On 11 September, the EEF participants and Primorye residents can attend an international exhibition football match between the Vladivostok Luch-Energiya clubs and the Chinese Yanbian Funde.

On 11–13 September the Far East Street hosts the 1st Cup of the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation in Go, a board game popular in China, Korea and Japan. It is thought to develop strategic thinking and management skills. The programme of the tournament includes exhibition games between people in business and politicians from Russia, China, Japan and other countries, as well as a match against the AI Golaxy, which this year defeated the world Go champion Chinese Ke Jie. Also, Vladivostok residents and guests of EEF can attend seminars and participate in a simultaneous game session with the participation of leading Russian players.

The International Kolmar Mas-wrestling Cup (Coal Mining Company Kolmar), which gathers the strongest heavyweight athletes from Europe and Asia, North and South America, Australia and Oceania, is another sporting event on the Far East Street.

This year the EEF Sporting Programme includes three regattas. Traditional Roscongress Foundation Platu 25 Yachting Cup is to take place on 11–13 September in Ajax Bay. Participants of the Far East Tall Ships Regatta 2018, which begins on 1 September, are to arrive in Vladivostok from the Chinese city of Qingdao for the opening of the Forum. Participants of this regatta, tall ships from Germany, China, Brazil, Australia, France, Japan, Korea and Russia, are to race in Ussuri and Amursky Bays. Besides, six tall training ships: Nadezhda and Pallada from Russia, Kaiwo Maru and Ami from Japan, Koreana from South Korea and Bima Suci from Indonesia are to participate in a regatta on 9–14 September in Vladivostok.
