Russia–Japan Dialogue to Resume at the 4th Eastern Economic Forum

Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, Executive Secretary of the Organizing Committee on preparation and holding of EEF 2018, Anton Kobyakov met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Russia Toyohisa Kozuki in Moscow. The parties recapped the SPIEF 2018 and discussed in detail the cooperation between the countries in preparation for the 4th Eastern Economic Forum, which will take place in Vladivostok on 11–13 September 2018.

Toyohisa Kozuki expressed gratitude to the Russian party for hosting the delegation of Japan at SPIEF 2018, highly appraising the level of organization of the event. The Ambassador also confirmed the intention of Prime Minister of Japan Shinzō Abe to participate in EEF 2018.

Organization and preparation for the sporting programme of the EEF 2018 was given a special priority, in particular, the annual International Vladivostok Jigoro Kano Junior Judo Tournament under the patronage of the President of the Russian Federation and the Sail Training International Far East Regatta.

In addition, the parties discussed the action plan for the events of the Russia–Japan cross-year which was opened at SPIEF 2018.

In the context of the Russian-Japanese agreements on the development of interregional cooperation, the parties welcomed the initiative of the Roscongress Foundation to conduct the road show of Russian regions in Japan on 1–2 November 2018, with participation of the heads of the federal subjects of Russia who are interested in developing Russian–Japanese cooperation.

Summing up, Anton Kobyakov expressed hope for the continuation of a constructive dialogue between the countries and the active participation of Japan in the 4th Eastern Economic Forum. In his opinion, the various formats of EEF as the key regional communication platform contribute to broadening economic ties between our countries and further strengthening of Russia–Japan relations.
