Events in 14 different sports have been
included in the sporting programme of the 5th Eastern Economic
Forum, which is set to be held on 4–6 September
in Vladivostok.
“The sporting programme has brought together major
international tournaments and spectacular tournaments of the promotional kind,
events for Forum participants and residents of Primorye, and it has become a
popular venue for presenting different athletic disciplines and projects. What’s more, many of the sporting events will embrace the
theme of expanding international cooperation, one of the main themes of the
Forum business programme”, – Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and
Executive Secretary of the Eastern Economic Forum Organizing Committee Anton
Kobyakov said.
EEF 2019’s main sporting event looks to be the Annual
International Jigoro Kano Judo Tournament under the patronage of Russian
President Vladimir Putin and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The tournament
will bring together teams of young men and women under the age of 18 from
Russia, Japan, Mongolia, China, and South Korea. The main trophy will be up for
grabs in the mixed tournament. In addition, competition will take place in the
50, 55, 66, 73 and 90 kg weight categories for boys and the 40, 44, 52, 57, and
70 kg categories for girls and has been included in the International Judo
Federation calendar. The event is being organized by the Russian Judo
Federation, the Ministry of Sports, and the Administration of Primorye
Territory. The event is being operated by the Roscongress Foundation. The
tournament has been permanently registered at Fetisov Arena, one of the Far
East’s largest sporting complexes.
The first day of EEF 2019’s main programme kicks off with the traditional race
in support of rare animals of the Far East and looks to bring together Forum
participants and city residents. This year, distances of 1 and 5 km will pass
along the new highway in the picturesque surroundings of the Primorskiy
Oceanarium. On 4 September, EEF 2019 participants will also be able to take
part in the gala hockey match and the Roscongress Cup curling tournament, which
will be held as part of the WCT Pacific Ocean Cup 2019 among mixed pairs with the participation of
national teams from Russia, China, South Korea, Australia, and Japan.
On September 5, the ‘Ocean’ Russian
Children’s Centre will host the opening ceremony of
the 10th Asia-Pacific Region Youth Athletic Games, held under the
auspices of UNESCO. More than 300 young men and women from India, China, Japan,
South Korea, North Korea, Laos, Thailand, and Russia will take part in
competitions in nine different sports: badminton, 3 on 3 basketball, judo,
athletics, futsal, table tennis, swimming, and chess. A rich cultural programme
has been prepared for the participants of the Games: excursions to the sights
of Vladivostok, a flower laying ceremony at the S-56 Submarine memorial, and a
visit to the Primorskiy Oceanarium.
For the fourth time, the Roscongress Cup
regatta will be held in Ajax Bay in the Platu 25 class. In keeping with
tradition, it will receive “musical” accompaniment – most of the 14 teams will sail on yachts from the
Seven Feet club named after musical groups. The competition format includes
short dynamic races close enough to the shore that Forum guests may follow the
struggle between participants.
For the first time ever, the Russia–Japan Sumo House will be open at the ‘Far East Street’ exhibition. The house programme will include master
classes, an introduction to this form of Japanese wrestling, interactive
contests, and an entertainment programme culminating in a match between the
Russian and Japanese National Sumo Teams.
The Far East Street Yakutia Pavilion will
host the Kolmar Coal Mining Company Cup International Mas-Wrestling Tournament
with the participation of athletes from 11 countries, including three-time
world champion Pavel Chernogradsky. Tournament participants will also take part
in the Miner’s Glory strength and agility competition,
which will round to an end with a team relay employing 100 kg bags in place of
batons.
Athletes from Russia, China, Korea, Japan,
and India will compete in the International Go Tournament for the 5th
Eastern Economic Forum Cup. In addition to the more traditional competition,
tournament guests of honour will test out VR-Go, with a virtual match between
the business programme and the Far East Street venues. Workshops and friendly
matches will be organized to familiarize EEF delegates with one of the
Asia-Pacific region’s most important intellectual games. In
addition, CEO of Rosgeology JSC Sergey Gorkov and CEO of Polymetal
International Vitaliy Nesis will launch the countdown clock for the start of
the 41st World Championship Game, which is slated to 2020 in
Vladivostok.
Forum participants and city residents will
be able to test their strength at Labour and Defence Standards at the Far East
Street site. The Russian Olympic Committee site, dedicated to the 40th
anniversary of the 1980 Olympics, will be open on Vladivostok’s Sportivnaya Naberezhnaya. Residents of Primorye will
also be treated to Dragonboat, streetball, football, and baseball tournaments.

Bahrain Joins Framework Declaration on Conservation of Gyrfalcons
The Kingdom of Bahrain has become the seventh country to join the Declaration of Intent for the Conservation of the Gyrfalcon Population. The document was adopted by Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and the UAE as part the Falcon Day International Forum, which was first held in Vladivostok during the 8th Eastern Economic Forum. The event was managed by the Roscongress Foundation.

Great Bustard Exploring Kalmykia’s Steppe
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, VNII Ecologia, the Government of the Republic of Kalmykia, the Roscongress Foundation and Kamchatka Falcon Centre, with the participation of experts and foundations from the Gulf countries, continue to work on the implementation of the order of the President of the Russian Federation and the comprehensive action plan for the establishment of Russian centres for the reintroduction and conservation of falconiform birds in Kamchatka Territory and bustards in the Republic of Kalmykia.

Amur Region Government Discusses Preparations for AmurExpo 2024
Members of the Amur Region government discussed preparations for the Russian-Chinese AmurExpoForum 2024, which will take place on 24–26 May on both banks of the Amur River. For the second year in a row, based on instructions from Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Forum will serve as an offsite platform of the Eastern Economic Forum. The Forum will be organized with the support of the Roscongress Foundation.
