Delegation from Republic of the Union of Myanmar to visit Eastern Economic Forum 2021

A delegation from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar has confirmed that they will be visiting the Eastern Economic Forum, which is taking place on 2–4 September in Vladivostok.

The delegation will be led by Minister of Planning and Finance Win Shein, and will include a number of diplomatic representatives. The delegates plan to hold a range of meetings with Russian government officials and entrepreneurs.

“We are delighted to welcome a delegation from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to Vladivostok. We look forward to working together at the Eastern Economic Forum in a productive manner. Relations between Russia and Myanmar are both good-natured and friendly. I have no doubt that the delegation’s presence at the Forum will help give rise to new joint ventures in the Far East,” said Advisor to the President of the Russian Federation and Executive Secretary of the EEF Organizing Committee Anton Kobyakov.

Win Shein commented that Russia and Myanmar have enjoyed a long history of friendly diplomatic relations. Consequently, Myanmar is looking for new opportunities to cooperate with Russia in the fields of business and economics. It is hoped that doing so will broaden economic partnership, both on a bilateral and multilateral level. In particular, Myanmar exports agricultural and fish products to Russia, and imports fertilizer, diesel fuel, petrol and other oil products from Russia. Both nations stand to benefit by working together more closely in these areas of trade.

“Myanmar is able to offer Russian entrepreneurs and investors a range of investment opportunities in the oil and gas sector, particularly in prospecting coastal and maritime areas. Other areas offering potential include oil refineries; producing high-value-added agricultural and livestock farming products; manufacturing goods such as rubber; developing infrastructure such as railway links, ports, and oil storage tanks; renewable energy; information and communications technology; healthcare services; and finance,” said the Minister of Planning and Finance of Myanmar.

In 2019, a delegation from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar similarly participated in events held as part of the Eastern Economic Forum.
